Intro

Aloha!

I “converted” to Hawaiian (I was born German, French, Irish — so you can say I became a Hawaiian at Heart) several years ago after my first visit to Hawai’i. Now, I have decided to give back doing what I can with what I have through music. Thus, in case you were wondering, that’s the genesis of “Kilika Music”. (In Hawaiian, “Chris” is “Kilika”.)

You do not have to be on American Idol to use and enjoy the gifts that God gave you. Life is music and rhythm! If your heart is beating, then you have rhythm! I am not Hawaiian by blood, but I am Hawaiian at heart. I am into music that is all about aloha and mana. In Hawaiian it is kanikapila, in other cultures it is folk music…People’s music:

Everyone can and should sing and make music!

This site is for everyone who is Hawaiian or who is a Hawaiian at heart, even if you don’t realize it yet. It is about giving goodness to you through song. It is about being open to the goodness/mana that God has given us and passing it on to others to find its destiny. While Kilika’s music may not be purely Hawaiian in style, it is Hawaiian in spirit.

In addition, this site is a bit of a musical art gallery and serves to publicize the output from my creative endeavors into the vast uncharted waters of the Internet. So now you all get to watch me in a bubble and observe my growth, or lack thereof, over time in my life as a songwriter, musician, singer and recording engineer. I give and will give lots of music away because it helps my cause, and I love it when people use my music to create other creative things – music videos, films/pictures, remixes, etc. — I am sure you can think of other new ideas.

Be sure to visit my “Things From You” page where I will list stuff that you send me – pictures, artwork, videos, images, covers, remixes, whatever. If there is nothing in the list yet, you need to get busy! If you’d like to contribute something related to a particular song, for now just email it to me.

Eventually, when my web programming skills advance enough, or I am rich enough to hire my own programmer I will add an automated way for you to “click and send”!

Besides writing my own music, I also play the bass in the Woodinville Concert Band. (Woodinville, Washington USA) www.woodinvilleband.org and I do free concerts for nursing homes, convalescent centers and/or hospitals and I occasionally perform at Victory Music’s Seattle area open mic’s.

My objectives for this undertaking are:

1. To push my creative capabilities by writing and recording to a self-imposed (but somewhat loose) deadline.

2. To test the viability of the Internet and Creative Commons licensing concept as vehicle capable of supporting an artist financially. (Even though I have a great day job, I realize the benefit of having a supplemental income stream and a possible second career after retirement!)

To advance my objective number 2, I plan to actively support the use of my songs in student/amateur films, podcasting, and/or in remixes. Since all of my music is released under an Attribution-NonCommercial Creative Commons license this means you can perform any kind of non-commercial re-use as long as you:

1. Credit me and link to this site, and

2. Do NOT use it to make money (this does not apply to songs with material that I do not own, such as cover songs). There is no need to ask permission, you are free to go make something. If you want to know more about Creative Commons, please visit the Creative Commons site.
